Lateral Violence in the Workplace

  • 15 Steps

About

Lateral violence, also known as horizontal violence or internalized oppression, occurs when individuals direct their frustrations, resentment, or unhealed trauma toward peers instead of systems of power. It often shows up through gossip, passive aggression, bullying, sabotage, exclusion, and mistrust, and can be especially harmful in organizations striving to support others. This 2-hour online workshop is designed to unpack the root causes of lateral violence, including its ties to colonization, trauma, and systemic oppression. Through reflection, storytelling, and group discussion, participants will gain the tools to recognize, address, and prevent lateral violence in their own workplace settings. Participants will leave with practical strategies for fostering healthier communication, strengthening team culture, and contributing to a safe, respectful, and relational work environment.
